Melbourne Cup Day Edit

Melbourne Cup Day Edit

I had a fabulous Melbourne Cup Day. My husband and I went to a marquee at Doomben Race Track in Brisbane with family and friends. My Dad, who follows horse racing and loves a flutter, gave us some fantastic tips so we won most of the day. My youngest brother backed the winner of the Melbourne Cup and of course we had to celebrate by drinking champagne for the rest of the afternoon (it seemed like a good idea at the time).

I was very happy with my outfit as I was comfortable – very important at any race day as you are standing for a long time. My dress is by Self Portrait, a new label I have been watching with interest. I blogged about Self Portrait recently and this is my first piece. I have to say this dress is just gorgeous. It fits me so well in all the right places including a built in bra that held me in all day. I felt womanly and confident in this dress and I received many comments. This dress will be on high rotation this party season. I purchased this dress from Myer. Self portrait is available online at Netaporter, Matchesfashion and Farfetch. My only piece of advice is if you have a larger chest like myself (I am a D cup) take a size up as they are so well fitted around the bust.  I am normally a size 10 Australian or 10 UK in dresses,  in this dress I took a size 12 Australian or 12 UK .

I purchased these Aquazurra heels recently because I thought they are the perfect pair of elegant yet fun shoes coming into the festive season. I particularly love the pom poms. I have been wanting an Edie Parker clutch for a long time. They are all so beautiful and I have never been able to narrow down which one to buy. The “Happy” clutch caught my eye for sentimental reasons really. I have reached a point in my life where I am very content and happy.  I love the bright yellow print with the black background. I will use this clutch with almost any outfit.  I chose a Jennifer Behr Clip instead of traditional headpiece because I did not want to detract from the dress. The clutch and shoes are also statement pieces. My sunglasses are Celine, perfect for my small face. I can purchase them online and I know they will look good.

My husband is wearing Prada Pants, Shoes and Shirt and a Hermes Tie. The Prada pieces are all New York purchases and I recently gave him this Hermes tie for our wedding anniversary.

Congratulations to the winner of the Melbourne Cup, Prince of Penzance and fabulous jockey Michelle Payne. Such a great story. I love it when an underdog wins.
